The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City is another must-see in Beijing, but it was our least favorite. It probably has to do with the fact that it was terribly crowded the day we were there, so much so that in many areas you could hardly move. Our favorite parts were the groups of school kids who couldn't get enough of us (saying hello, asking for pictures, telling me I was beautiful!), and the Garden. We found it interesting that though everything we read about it before we went there called it The Forbidden City, but everything we saw, heard, or read about it there called it the Palace Museum. It dates from the 1400s and has over 900 buildings.

See? I think we were there with all 1.3 billion Chinese people!
Cute school groups.

 Amazing details on ceilings.
The Chinese ancient and modern love their statues. So do I.
I love all the guardians on the roofs. Only official buildings were allowed to have them, and the more important you were the more you could have.

Our favorite part by far was the Imperial Garden. So pretty.

We noticed a park across the street when we left that looked like it might have a good view of the complex, so we decided to check it out. I was glad we did. Walking around in it didn't do justice to how big it really was. Seeing it from above was amazing.

The tourist experience! We aren't used to such congestion here. I think they are more so. The people you meet are the best part. I will remember 'when' I go to try for a less busy day. I don't think we 'do' outdoor spaces like other cultures do. Love the lions, lanterns, and color.
